Background: Interpretation and interactions with intracardiac electrograms is crucial in electrophysiology (EP) training. However, there has been a substantial gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills inquired in the clinical setting. With the development of an online life-like EP simulator, interactive training has become an easily accessible tool.
Purpose: The aim of this study is to assess the efficiency of simulation-based training in electrophysiology, with the help of EP-simulator, by comparing it to traditional-learning methods.
Methods: 280 participants attended basic electrophysiology course, followed by a week of self-learning period and a subsequent 29 questions multichoice test. The students were randomised 1:1 into a traditional-learning method and simulation-learning group.
Results: 158 participants underwent the final exam (91 from the traditional-learning group and 67 from the simulator group). The simulator group, which obtainted additionally an access to EP-simulator, scored significantly better than the first group (mean score=15.10 vs 13.16, p=0.022).
Conclusion: EP-simulator is a feasible tool not only in the opinion of users but also but also contributes to better learning results. |
